In mourning at his best friend’s unexpected passing, a divorced car salesman from London travels to a legendary Appalachian folk festival they’d always planned to visit together. Finding a city in transition, he’s forced to overcome his outdated preconceptions about race and gender, and confront his own mortality and the choices he’s made, while trying to have the trip of a lifetime and do his old friend proud.
In this heartfelt and soulful story, our hero Malcolm travels to Asheville, North Carolina, to immerse himself in the local music scene and fulfill his recently passed friend's last wish and deliver an antique compass to the top of the highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Along the way, he grapples with his past and the choices he's made, forming new relationships and discovering the rich culture and beauty of the Appalachian region.
'Malcolm's Mountain' will shoot in 2023, over the course of 21 days, on location in Asheville, North Carolina.
